Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir was far from pleased after all-rounder Washington Sundar departed for one run off eight deliveries in the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur on Wednesday, December 3. The youngster was run out in an ugly fashion after a mix-up with skipper KL Rahul in the 41st over of the innings. After his struggling stint at No.5 in the series opener in Ranchi, Sundar was sent at No.6 after Virat Kohli's dismissal ahead of the death overs. The all-rounder's struggle, however, continued as he took six deliveries to get off the mark. After being outdone by Aiden Markram's delivery that turned away from him, Sundar attempted a reverse-sweep to throw the bowler off. The southpaw did not get a good enough connection, nor could he place the unorthodox shot as the ball travelled straight to Corbin Bosch at short third man. However, Sundar took off for a quick single right away. KL Rahul, at the other end, who had a complete view of the ball, remained unmoved at the non-striker's end. The youngster, however, remained committed for a split second longer before he realised KL Rahul was not on the same wavelength. While he turned around and tried to make the crease with a desperate dive, wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock had already whipped the bails off. The square leg umpire did not even refer to the third umpire before adjudging the player out. KL Rahul was left dumb founded by the Tamil Nadu cricketer's decision-making and cut a frustrated figure. Head coach Gautam Gambhir was also displeased in the dressing room as he expressed his frustration with a shake of the head. Washington Sundar's troubling run with the bat in ODIs continues as he has not crossed the 30-run mark in his last 11 innings in the format. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja left with the task of finishing after Washington Sundar's dismissal in IND vs SA 2025 2nd ODI Team India were reduced to 289-5 after 41 overs with the departure of Washington Sundar. At a time where the hosts needed a bit of stability after Virat Kohli's wicket before they could switch gears, the run-out left them in a tricky spot. However, the experienced pair of KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja came through once again much like in the first ODI to rescue India in the third powerplay. At the time of writing, the stand-in skipper has recorded his second consecutive fifty as the score reads 336-5 after 48 overs.
