Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir was spotted having long and intense discussions with vice-captain Shubman Gill and wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma ahead of the fourth T20I against Australia at the Carrara Oval. The two players were major takeaways from the Men in Blue's recent win in Hobart, but for different reasons.
Shubman Gill's horrid tour of Australia continued as he perished for 15 runs in the third T20I. The pressure continues to mount on him as he is yet to make a serious impression after displacing the in-form Sanju Samson at the top of the order.
Jitesh Sharma, on the other hand, made his return to the T20I line-up after almost two years, and made an instant impact. Featuring as a specialist finisher in the middle order in place of Sanju Samson, the wicket-keeper smashed 22 runs off 13 deliveries to help India chase down the 187-run target with nine balls to spare.
Both the aforementioned performances have given the team management a serious selection conundrum, and the upcoming set of T20Is will be crucial in determining the team's direction leading up to the 2026 T20 World Cup.
On the eve of the fourth T20I, Gautam Gambhir and Morne Morkel held a prolonged discussion with Jitesh Sharma by the pitch. The trio observed the surface, before the coach and the wicket-keeper made their way back towards the boundary together.
Gambhir seemed to be encouraging the player with occasional pats on the back, while Sharma was also seen nodding constantly. The head coach had another interaction with Shubman Gill, who listened intently with rapt attention. The pair spoke to each other for quite a while, before dispersing to join the rest of the contingent on the ground. Have a look at the interactions right here (via RevSportz).
The fourth T20I between India and Australia is scheduled for Thursday, November 6. The five-match affair is currently level at 1-1, after the series opener in Canberra was washed out due to rain.
Shubman Gill has scored 57 runs in three matches in AUS vs IND 2025 T20Is
Coming on the back of a poor series with the bat in the 1-2 ODI series loss during the tour, the opener's struggles extended into the shortest format as well. Shubman Gill kickstarted the series with a fluent, unbeaten 37 in the first T20I at the Manuka Oval, before rain had the final say.
The ace batter was then outplayed during the second T20I at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). He scored only five runs off 10 deliveries, before recording another disappointing score of 15 in the third T20I.
