Former Indian captain Kris Srikkanth urged the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to target New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell in the upcoming IPL 2026 auction. The 34-year-old has played only five IPL games, all with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2023, previously in his career.

However, he was surprisingly unsold in the IPL 2025 auction despite being a high-utility cricketer with the ability to smash massive sixes and bowl more-than-useful off-spin. Bracewell boasts over 200 T20 games of experience and has amassed close to 3,500 runs and 96 wickets.

Talking about CSK's plans for the auction, Srikkanth said on Star Sports (5:45):

"CSK already have a gun lineup till 4 with Gaikwad, Samson, Aayush Mhatre, and Urvil Patel. So they won't be too worried about their batting. If I were in the CSK management, I would go for a guy like Michael Bracewell. Everyone is underestimating him. He has scored a brilliant century against India in Hyderabad. He can bowl good off-spin and is a left-hander who can tonk the ball. He is a good finisher."

He added:

"Not many are talking about Michael Bracewell. Everyone keeps saying Livingstone, but the truth is, if Bracewell is encouraged, he'll do well. It is where someone like Dhoni can groom him into a fantastic all-rounder."

CSK endured a dismal IPL 2025 season, finishing at the bottom of the points table for the first time in their rich history.

"I'll definitely not buy Ravi Bishnoi" - Kris Srikkanth

Kris Srikkanth advised CSK not to acquire either Ravi Bishnoi or David Miller in the IPL 2026 auction despite their potentially high demand at the bidding table. Bishnoi and Miller endured underwhelming IPL 2025 seasons for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), resulting in the franchise releasing the duo.

"I'll definitely not buy Ravi Bishnoi. With him, there is no scope. They already have Shreyas Gopal. He's a good bowler. Also, it's been ages since David Miller scored. And playing on the Chennai surface half the matches, it'll not suit him. Instead of Miller, I'd rather pick Bracewell, who'll also give a few overs with the ball," said Srikkanth (via the aforementioned source).

He concluded:

"I'll try to pick both Livingstone and Bracewell. You'll get both within 10 crores. That will solve the spot below Dube. CSK definitely need an all-rounder to fill the Jadeja hole, which semi all-rounders like Livingstone and Bracewell will give. I'll also surely try to get someone like Cooper Connolly. He's a youngster and an all-format player, who's also a left-hander. He'll surely go to CSK this time as they can buy him for just 2 or 3 crores."

CSK made a blockbuster move in the off-season, trading veteran all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran, to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) for Sanju Samson. They have the second-highest purse of ₹43.40 crore in the IPL 2026 auction.
