South Africa’s Donovan Ferreira picked up his first wicket by dismissing India’s Shivam Dube in the opening T20I of the five-game series. The match is being played on Tuesday, December 9, at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
The wicket fell on the first ball of the 18th over of India’s innings. Ferreira fired a wobble-seam delivery at 108 kph on middle stump, and Dube attempted to slog it across the line but missed completely, allowing the ball to crash into the stumps.

The southpaw had a forgettable outing, scoring just 11 off nine balls with two fours. His dismissal left the hosts struggling at 137/6 after 17.1 overs.

After being put into bat, India lost vice-captain Shubman Gill for four in the first over to Lungi Ngidi. The Proteas pacer struck again in his next over, this time dismissing Men in Blue skipper Suryakumar Yadav for 12 off 11 deliveries. Opening batter Abhishek Sharma also endured a disappointing outing, scoring just 17 off 12 balls.
In the middle order, Tilak Varma (26 off 32) and Axar Patel (23 off 21) struggled to accelerate the scoring. Walking in at No. 6, veteran all-rounder Hardik Pandya began with two sixes off Keshav Maharaj in the 13th over.
Marking his return to international cricket after injury, the explosive batter continued his assault, reaching his fifty with a maximum off just 25 balls. Pandya finished unbeaten on 59 off 28 balls, hitting six fours and four sixes, while Jitesh Sharma remained not out on 10 off five as the Men in Blue completed their 20 overs at 175/6.
For South Africa, Ngidi claimed three wickets, Lutho Sipamla bagged two, and Donovan Ferreira picked up one.
