Former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan backed Rohit Sharma for not being consciously aggressive at all times in the recent ODIs. Zaheer's remarks came after Rohit took his time initially before exploding in the side's nine-wicket win in the third ODI against South Africa in Visakhapatnam. After going for an all-out approach as captain since the end of the 2022 season in ODIs, Rohit has returned to his old tempo of being more watchful in the initial overs. The 38-year-old has now played six ODIs since being replaced as India's ODI skipper by Shubman Gill, crossing 50 on four occasions.Talking about Rohit Sharma's return to a more traditional approach in ODIs, Zaheer said on Cricbuzz (9:31):"It's about how you approach the game in different phases. But it also depends on the situation. There are days as an opening batter where you get those deliveries early on that you can cash in on and get that momentum going. Then you can just be the aggressor on that day. Now that conscious effort to be the aggressor is not there, which is not a bad thing."He continued:"When two openers are batting there, not every day you have to be the aggressor. It's the understanding you have with your partner, and whoever is having a good day should start with that kind of momentum."Despite the sedate start, Rohit finished with 75 off 73 deliveries in the third South African ODI, adding a match-winning 155 for the opening wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal."We've seen this from Virat in this series, which is a nice sight to witness" - Zaheer KhanZaheer Khan praised Virat Kohli for seemingly reinventing himself despite his incredible achievements in India's recent ODIs. The champion batter meant business from the word go in the series decider against South Africa, scoring an uncharacteristic 45-ball 65*."It's good to close the series in a rushed and dominating fashion. And we've seen this from Virat in this series, which is a nice sight to witness and a nice approach to have. You have the staggering numbers that he has put up over the years, and back that with something new which he's dishing out. You are seeing the no-look shot," said Zaheer (via the aforementioned source).Zaheer added:"He has got a clear-cut plan in terms of how he wants to approach this format now. It's good to see the strike rate going up and him looking to be aggressive in his approach and putting bowlers under pressure."Kohli enjoyed an incredible three-match ODI series against the Proteas, finishing as the leading run-scorer with 302 runs at an average of 151 and a strike rate of 11.05. The veteran was adjudged the Player of the Series for his exploits as India bagged the honors by a 2-1 margin.
