Arshdeep Singh struck off the second delivery by dismissing Quinton de Kock in the T20I series opener between India and South Africa at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Tuesday, December 9. The left-arm pacer got de Kock caught out in the slip cordon for a silver duck.

Arshdeep bowled a length ball that swung away from de Kock after pitching. The southpaw tried to push at it but got a thick outside edge, and Abhishek Sharma took a regulation catch over his head in the second slip.

With Quinton de Kock’s wicket, Arshdeep Singh helped India make early inroads while defending 175. The former had slammed his seventh ODI ton in his previous outing against the Men in Blue in Vizag on Sunday. The left-arm seamer also continued his knack of picking up wickets in the power play.

Arshdeep Singh helped India make early inroads after Hardik Pandya helped India post a fighting total against South Africa in the first T20I. The Men in Blue put up 175/6 in their allotted 20 overs as Pandya slammed an unbeaten 59 off 28 balls at a stunning strike rate of 210.71, including four sixes and six fours. Jitesh Sharma remained unbeaten on 10 off five deliveries.

Meanwhile, Tilak Varma, Axar Patel, and Abhishek Sharma chipped in with 26 (32), 23 (21), and 17 (12), respectively. Big guns – skipper Suryakumar Yadav and vice-captain Shubman Gill departed for 12 (11) and 4 (2), respectively.

Lungi Ngidi starred with the ball for the Proteas, returning with figures of 3/31 in his four overs. Meanwhile, Lutho Sipamla bagged two wickets.

In response, South Africa were 22/2 after 3.3 overs at the time of writing, with skipper Aiden Markram (7) and Dewald Brevis (1) at the crease. Tristan Stubbs (14 off 9) was the last batter to get out, caught behind by wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma.

The two teams will next lock horns in the second T20I, scheduled to take place at the New Chandigarh Stadium in Mullanpur on Thursday, December 11.
