Arshdeep Singh struck early as Quinton de Kock departed for a single-digit score in the second ODI between India and South Africa in Raipur on Wednesday, December 3. The left-handed batter played a skier to get caught out for eight off 11 deliveries. With that, the Proteas lost their opening wicket for 26.
The dismissal came in the fifth over of South Africa’s run chase. The left-arm seamer bowled a fuller-length ball that curled away late, and de Kock tried to dispatch it over mid-on but mistimed it for a top edge. Washington Sundar moved towards his right from mid-on and judged the catch to perfection.

With the dismissal, Quinton de Kock failed to deliver yet again in the three-match series, having departed for a duck in the series opener. On the other hand, Arshdeep Singh continued his knack of picking up wickets in the powerplays. He finished with figures of 2/64 in the opening game.

Arshdeep Singh gave an ideal start to the Men in Blue after India posted 358/5 in their allotted 50 overs in the second ODI. Ruturaj Gaikwad looked impressive with the bat, scoring his maiden ODI century. The right-handed batter took just 77 balls to get to the milestone, scoring 105 off 83 balls, in an innings laced with two sixes and 12 fours.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli continued his purple patch with the bat, hitting consecutive centuries. After 135 in the first ODI, he slammed 102 off 93 deliveries, featuring two sixes and seven fours.
Later, skipper KL Rahul provided the finishing touches, staying unbeaten on 66 off 43 balls with the help of two maximums and six boundaries. Ravindra Jadeja also scored 24 not out off 27. Marco Jansen bagged two wickets for the Proteas as other bowlers failed to show up.
The Men in Blue are 1-0 ahead in the series after a 17-run victory in the first ODI. After a 2-1 away series victory in 2023, Rahul will now look to win his second ODI series as India captain against South Africa.
