Legendary Bollywood star Dharmendra passed away at the age of 89 at his residence in Mumbai on Monday, November 24. The celebrated actor had been unwell since November 1 and had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital earlier.

He was discharged earlier this month and continued his treatment at home. Following the news of his passing away, several members of the cricket fraternity paid emotional tributes on social media.

Former India captain Virat Kohli penned a heartfelt note as he paid condolences to the Deol family. The ace batter wrote on X:

"Today, we have lost a legend of Indian cinema who captivated hearts with his charm and his talent. A true icon who inspired everyone who watched him. May the family find strength in this tough time. My sincere condolences to the whole family."

Dharmendra passed away just days before his 90th birthday (December 8). His Bollywood career spanned over six decades, and he featured in more than 300 films.


"Fatherly figure for me" - Navjot Singh Sidhu's emotional post for Dharmendra

Former India cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu posted an old picture of himself with Dharmendra. He remarked that the Bollywood 'He-Man' was like a father figure to him.

He also stated that the cult classic 'Sholay', starring Dharmendra, would remain one of the greatest Hindi films of all time. The cricketer-turned-commentator wrote:

"The most handsome actor I ever saw , heart of gold - ‘Sholay’ would arguably be the greatest Hindi film of all time … fatherly figure for me and a legend forever … strength to his family to bear the irreparable loss."

The late actor's last Bollywood film is set to release later this year. He will be seen in Sriram Raghavan's war drama, 'Ikkis'. The movie will hit the theatres on December 25.
