Seasoned Team India pacer Mohammad Shami was not picked in the Test squad for the two-match home series against South Africa, which will begin on November 14. The Indian selectors picked Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep as the three frontline pacers in the 15-member squad.

Shami, who last played a Test match for India in June 2023, would have been hopeful of a recall after picking up 15 wickets in Bengal's first two matches in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. The right-arm pacer claimed seven wickets against Uttarakhand in Kolkata and eight scalps against Gujarat at the same venue. However, it was not enough to earn him a Test recall.

Shami has so far featured in 64 Test matches. Amid the debate over his international future, we compare his bowling stats with those of former India pace spearhead Javagal Srinath after the latter had also played 64 Tests.
