The IPL 2026 auction will be held in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, December 16. This year's event will be a mini-auction and will start at 1 PM local time (2.30 PM IST). BCCI had initially confirmed that 350 players had been shortlisted for the auction. However, as per a report in ESPNcricinfo, the final list features 359 players, following the addition of nine more names.
Of the 350-plus players who have been shortlisted to go under the hammer at the IPL 2026 auction, 244 are Indian cricketers, while are overseas cricketers. A maximum of 77 slots can be filled up by the 10 franchises combined at the mini-auction, with 31 of the slots being reserved for overseas players.
Players have been registered in eight price brackets for the IPL 2026 auction, with ₹2 crore being the highest reserve price category and ₹30 lakh being the lowest. Forty players (including two Indians) have registered themselves at the highest base price of ₹2 crore for the auction.
Purse remaining for each franchise and slots available
Each of the 10 IPL franchises have been given a salary cap of ₹120 crore to build their squads for IPL 2026. Following retentions and releases, 2024 champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have the biggest purse available for the IPL 2026 auction - ₹64.30 crore. They can fill up a maximum of 13 slots, with six of the slots being for overseas players.
Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have the second-biggest purse available - ₹43.40 crore. They head into the IPL 2026 auction with nine slots left to fill (four overseas slots). Mumbai Indians (MI) have the smallest purse left for the auction - ₹2.75 crore, while IPL 2025 runners-up Punjab Kings (PBKS) have the second lowest - ₹11.50. MI have five slots left (one overseas slot), while PBKS can fill up a maximum of four slots (two overseas).

Salary cap for overseas players in IPL 2026 auction
One of the biggest rule changes introduced for the IPL 2026 auction is the salary cap for overseas players. While there is expected to be a bidding war for Australia all-rounder Cameron Green, no overseas player will be paid more than ₹18 crore even if the winning bid exceeds this amount.
IPL's new 'maximum fee' rule for overseas cricketers states that a player's maximum fee at a mini-auction will be the lower value between the highest retention slab (₹18 crore) and the highest price at the previous mega auction (₹27 crore for Rishabh Pant in this instance).
Will franchises be allowed to use the RTM option?
Since the IPL 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi is a mini-auction, franchises will not have the Right to Match (RTM) option this time. The RTM was available for the IPL 2025 mega auction that was conducted over two days in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
What is the maximum squad size?
Each of the 10 IPL franchises can have a squad size of 25, with a maximum of eight overseas players. The minimum squad size is 18.
