India suffered the worst defeat in their Test history as they went down to South Africa by 408 runs in Guwahati on Wednesday, November 26. The hosts suffered a 2-0 loss in the two-match series and are in serious trouble in the 2025-27 World Test Championship.
Right from the toss, nothing went India's way. Most of the home side's players turned in disappointing performances at the Barsapara Stadium, and head coach Gautam Gambhir finds himself under serious pressure following a series of disappointing performances in the red-ball format.
On that note, here are India's player ratings from the second Test against South Africa.
IND vs SA 2025, 2nd Test: India crumble in Guwahati

Yashasvi Jaiswal: 6/10
Jaiswal hung in there for a decent half-century in the first innings but completely threw it away in the second. His attempted cut off Marco Jansen was certainly ill-advised and unbecoming of a player of his caliber.
KL Rahul: 3/10
Rahul had a disappointing Test match. Although the South African spinners bowled well to him and got him out with a couple of pearlers, he was deceived in flight on both those dismissals. He also shelled a catch at second slip.
Sai Sudharsan: 6/10
Sai Sudharsan hit a rank long hop straight to midwicket in the first innings. It was a disappointing dismissal from the talented left-hander. He waged a gritty battle on the final day, managing to face more balls than anyone else in the Indian team by some distance.
Rishabh Pant: 1/10
Pant's maiden Test as captain couldn't have gone any worse. He fell cheaply in both innings, and the manner of his dismissals was disappointing to say the least. The keeper-batter's captaincy was nothing short of shocking - he let the game drift, and his bowling changes were highly questionable.
Dhruv Jurel: 1/10
Jurel was another keeper who had a miserable outing in Guwahati. His attempted flat-batted pull off Jansen was one of the worst shots in recent memory, and he fell cheaply in the second innings as well.
Ravindra Jadeja: 8/10
Jadeja was one of the few Indian players to give a good account of himself in the second Test. He top-scored in the second innings and picked up six wickets in the Test. The all-rounder showed good proactiveness against spin.
Washington Sundar: 6.5/10
Sundar was clearly off color with the ball, not managing to produce enough wicket-taking opportunities. The young all-rounder displayed decent technique and application, but his streak of getting caught at slip off an off-spinner continued.
Nitish Kumar Reddy: 2/10
Playing as a virtual specialist batter at No. 9, Reddy had neither the overs nor the balls to make an impression. He seemed out of his depth in both departments, and India need to seriously consider whether they should field him in red-ball cricket.
Kuldeep Yadav: 6.5/10
Kuldeep was India's highest wicket-taker in the first innings but was underutilized in the second. The left-arm wrist-spinner wasn't at his threatening best, although Pant's usage didn't help at all. He showed great defensive technique in both innings.
Mohammed Siraj: 5.5/10
Siraj finished the Test with just two wickets to his name. He sent down more than 30 overs in the first innings but didn't appear overly penetrative on a wicket where Jansen seemed unplayable.
Jasprit Bumrah: 6.5/10
Bumrah was a tad unlucky to finish the contest with just two scalps. He bowled decently without much help from the surface, and while he too wasn't anywhere close to his best, the fact that he got through a decent amount of overs without any drops in pace was encouraging.
