Rohit Sharma slammed a brilliant half-century as India registered a dominating nine-wicket victory over South Africa in the third ODI on Saturday, December 6. With this win, they also sealed the three-match series 2-1.
The Men in Blue bundled South Africa out for 270, bowling first. They then chased down the total comfortably in just 39.5 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal struck an unbeaten hundred, making 116 runs. Rohit Sharma made 75 at the top, while Virat Kohli added the finishing touches with a quickfire unbeaten 65.
Earlier with the ball, Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna shone. Both the Indian bowlers bagged four wickets apiece. The hosts won the first game by 17 runs at Ranchi. South Africa bounced back with a four-wicket win at Raipur. However, the hosts registered a one-sided victory in the series decider.
That said, let us take a look at five records/milestones made in the third ODI.
#5 Oldest South African batter to score 2000 ODI runs
South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma became the oldest batter from his country to cross the 2000-run mark in ODI cricket. He achieved the feat at the age of 35 years and 293 days. The record was previously held by Rassie van der Dussen, who had achieved the feat at the age of 34 years and 247 days.
Bavuma made 48 runs off 67 balls with five boundaries. He now has 2035 runs from 55 ODIs at an average of 42.39 with five hundreds and eight half-centuries. Bavuma became the 22nd batter from South Africa to cross the 2000-run mark in ODIs.
