The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 auction was action galore from start to finish as some of the biggest names in women's cricket went under the hammer. While some franchises added several big-ticket players in a major overhaul, others tinkered with their squads ever so slightly in an attempt to deliver the goods next season.

The Mumbai Indians (MI) continue to boast a stellar roster as they look for a third WPL title next year. Meanwhile, others, like the UP Warriors and Gujarat Giants (GG), bolstered their squads with worthy additions in the auction.

Surprisingly, a few well-accomplished overseas and Indian players also found no buyers and went unsold at the auction.

On that note, here are the five marquee stars who shockingly went unsold at the 2026 WPL auction.

#1 Alyssa Healy

Australian captain Alyssa Healy was undoubtedly the biggest name that went unsold at the WPL 2026 auction. The 35-year-old played for the UP Warriors in the first two WPL seasons before missing the 2025 season with an injury.

However, the franchise released Healy ahead of the auction, having missed the playoffs in the last two editions.

The wicketkeeper batter boasts impressive WPL numbers with an average of almost 27 and a strike rate of over 130 in 17 outings. Furthermore, with her ability to also don the gloves and lead the side, Healy's absence from any of the five teams comes as a surprise.

While her form hasn't been excellent in the ongoing Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), she is coming off an outstanding 50-over World Cup in India. Healy finished as the sixth leading run-scorer with 299 runs at an average of almost 75 and a strike rate of 125.10 in five outings.

#2 Alana King

Another Australian star, Alana King, found no buyers at the WPL 2026 auction despite her incredible recent white-ball form. The 20-year-old finished in the top five among wicket-takers in the recent 2025 ODI World Cup with 13 wickets at an average of 17.38 and an economy of 4.03 in seven matches.

King is also adding valuable runs in the lower order, evidenced by her game-changing 51* against Pakistan in the marquee event. The leg-spinning all-rounder was part of the UP Warriorz a season ago but played only one game.

However, at the peak of her career, with the ability to add value with both bat and ball, the lack of interest among franchises in the Aussie star came as a massive surprise.

#3 Sabbhineni Meghana

Destructive opener Sabbhineni Meghana was the most surprising name unsold among Indian players at the WPL 2026 auction. After a sub-par maiden WPL season with the Gujarat Gitans in 2023, the 29-year-old impressed for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the last two editions.

Meghana played a vital role in RCB's title run in 2024, averaging 33.60 at a strike rate of almost 113 in seven matches. Despite playing only two games in the 2025 season, the right-hander scored at an incredible strike rate of 212.

With her best years likely still ahead of her, Meghana's exclusion from any of the squads remains surprising.

#4 Alice Capsey

All-rounders are usually gold dust when it comes to T20 sides, and England's Alice Capsey has been one such when it comes to the WPL. At 21, the batting all-rounder has already played 18 WPL games, all for the Delhi Capitals (DC).

While her performances have dropped by the year, her overall WPL batting average of 27 at a strike rate of almost 134, in combination with 11 wickets at an average of 20.45, is nothing to sneeze at. Capsey has been integral to DC finishing at the top of the points table in each of the three WPL seasons.

Thus, it comes off as a shocker that the England youngster found no buyers at the 2026 WPL auction.

#5 Tazmin Brits

South African veteran Tazmin Brits will continue her wait to play in the cash-rich WPL after going unsold at the 2026 auction. The 34-year-old surprisingly found no buyers despite her stellar T20I record with the bat.

Brits has scored over 1,700 runs at an average of 32.43 and a strike rate of almost 107 in 68 outings. Furthermore, the South African can also don the gloves on occasion, making her a valuable double-duty player.

Brits has been in outstanding T20I form this year, averaging 66 at a strike rate of over 122, making her omission among franchises a big surprise.
