Veteran India batter Virat Kohli is reportedly set to feature in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025-26 season. Amid the ongoing ODI series against South Africa, Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rohan Jaitley confirmed Kohli's participation in the domestic 50-over tournament (according to IANS).
Virat Kohli is in blistering form at the moment, having smashed two consecutive centuries in the first two ODIs against South Africa. He made 135 runs off 120 balls in the first match and 102 off 93 balls in the second.
With Kohli playing just one format in international cricket, playing domestic matches could give him more game time to prepare and stay in form for the 2027 ODI World Cup. However, he is likely to play a few games and may not play the entire season.
Virat Kohli last played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Delhi against Services in 2010. He also captained Delhi in that match as they registered a dominating 113-run victory. Kohli made 16 runs off eight balls as they scored 311/6 batting first and bowled Services out for 198.
That said, here are five players who you may not know played alongside Virat Kohli the last time he featured in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
#5 Vikas Mishra
32-year-old left-arm spinner Vikas Mishra was a part of Delhi's playing 11 the last time Virat Kohli played in the VHT. He bowled an impressive spell in that game, returning figures of 2/37 from 10 overs.
Vikas was a part of India's 15-member squad during the 2012 U-19 World Cup. He was also part of the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the IPL in 2011 and 2012. However, he did not play a single game. Vikas played 51 first-class games, nine List-A and two T20 matches.
#4 Pawan Suyal
Former left-arm Delhi pacer Pawan Suyal also bowled a match-winning spell in the 2010 VHT clash against the Services. He returned figures of 2/48 from seven overs. Suyal has been a part of the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals in the IPL.
He made his IPL debut with MI in 2013 and was with the team till 2015. In three seasons, he played just five matches for them and bagged two wickets. He was part of DC in 2016, but did not play a single game. Suyal also travelled with the Capitals to the UAE during the 2020 IPL as a net bowler.
#3 Rajat Bhatia
Former all-rounder and domestic veteran Rajat Bhatia delivered with both bat and ball in the game against the Services. He scored 56 runs and returned figures of 2/11 from five overs with the ball.
Despite scoring close to 6,500 runs and taking 137 wickets in first-class cricket, as a medium-paced bowling all-rounder, he was unfortunate not to represent India. Bhatia played for the Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) in the IPL. He even won the league with KKR in 2012.
#2 Mithun Manhas
Mithun Manhas is the newest and current President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The former middle-order batter scored a brilliant century in the game against the Services, making 148 runs off 154 balls. Manhas and Virat Kohli also batted together in that contest.
He was a solid performer in domestic cricket, scoring 9714 runs with 27 hundreds in first-class cricket. Unfortunately, he could not play for India as the team was filled with big names like Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, and Sourav Ganguly, among others, during his time. Manhas has played for DC, now-defunct Pune Warriors India (PWI), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL.
#1 Shikhar Dhawan
Virat Kohli's former India teammate, Shikhar Dhawan, also played for Delhi and scored 32 runs in the game against Services while opening the batting. The southpaw recently announced his retirement from international, domestic cricket, and the IPL in 2024.
Dhawan played 269 matches for India across all three formats and scored 10867 runs with 24 centuries and 55 half-centuries. The 40-year-old represented DC (2008 and 2019-2021), now-defunct Deccan Chargers, MI, SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL. He won the league with SRH in 2016 and also won the Champions Trophy with India in 2013.
