"You can’t lead them on this long": Joel Klatt fears Ole Miss is headed for chaos amid Lane Kiffin uncertainty

Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin has reportedly been given an ultimatum if he wants to remain with the school. According to reports, Kiffin, who has been non-committal about his future with the No. 7 Rebels, needs to inform the team about his plans before the Egg Bowl game against Mississippi State on Nov. 28.

On Wednesday, analyst Joel Klatt appeared on Colin Cowherd's "The Herd" show and shared his take on Kiffin's uncertain future at Ole Miss.

“Here’s the thing: If he (Kiffin) wanted to stay, he would stay and we would have already known it,” Klatt said. “Look at all the other coaches around the country that have said they’re staying or signed extensions. And Ole Miss, I know, has told him money is not a factor here. Whatever you get offered, we will match it. So it’s not that he’s going to make more somewhere else, which is starting to lead me to believe – and again, I will fully own I have been all over the map on this and Lane, but Lane is a unique cat.

“Now, I don’t know if he can come back to Ole Miss. You can’t lead them on for this long. Now, there’s going to start to be animus. Like, ‘Why aren’t you signing an extension? What’s the problem?’ I think he’s going to Florida – I really do, and I think he’s going to be the next coach of the Gators, and I think that we’re going to have one of the biggest messes in college football history go down before the Playoff when Lane Kiffin steps away from a College Football Playoff team and goes to coach another team.”

The Rebels are currently on course to make their first College Football Playoff appearance in history. A win over Mississippi State should guarantee a playoff spot for Kiffin's Ole Miss.

Despite a historic achievement at stake, Kiffin has not decided whether he will continue at Ole Miss.

According to reports, Florida and LSU are the two teams rumored to have an interest in luring Kiffin.

On Wednesday, Lane Kiffin opened up on his coaching journey at Ole Miss, while also sharing a few details on his personal life.

"I love that I feel like my story, what I've gone through, my experiences are able to impact people," Kiffin said. "I remember speaking at my dad's funeral and so many people from so many places, sending cards, coming down and saying things about his impact on them.

"I was like, 'God, that's what I hope for.' ... I'm thinking of the legacy of people you connect with and the ability to help them through things."

Kiffin's Rebels have an off in Week 13, before closing off their regular seaon against Mississippi State.
