Dallas Cowboys owner and Arkansas alumnus Jerry Jones said he likes that his alma mater has promoted Bobby Petrino after firing Sam Pittman over the weekend. But he said he’s not going to get involved with the school’s coaching search.

In an interview with 105.3 The Fan's Bobby Belt on Monday, Jones, who is valued at $20.5 million (per Forbes.com), made it clear he will distance himself from Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek’s task of revitalizing the program.

"We do not encourage in the NFL, in any way, getting involved in the coaching aspect of college publicly,” Jones said. “It’s not tampering, it’s just something you don’t do.”

Pittman was fired after a 56-13 loss to No. 22 Notre Dame on Saturday in Fayetteville. It was the third straight defeat for the Razorbacks after opening the season with a 2-0 record.

Jones also commented on the promotion of Petrino as interim coach. He believes that Petrino can help navigate Arkansas' last seven games beginning on Oct. 11 at Tennessee.

"I like the coach that they've got over there, Petrino," Jones said. "And I've always thought he is an outstanding coach, and it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't do well the rest of this year over there."

Petrino returns to the program's head coaching duties 14 years after leading the team to a 29-16 Cotton Bowl win over Kansas State in 2012. He has also expressed his desire to be a full-time coach.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Lawton, Oklahoma, native becomes the seventh Arkansas commit to reopen his recruitment status after the Razorbacks' purged their coaching staff following a 2-3 start to the 2025 season.

Auston, who was recruited by Williams, chose the Razorbacks over Missouri, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Kansas State, TCU, Colorado, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt, Iowa State, Washington State, UNLV and Houston.

The development reduces Arkansas' 2026 class commits to 20. There are more players likely to follow the seven prospects in searching for a new school.
