Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin was left fuming in the first half of his team's Egg Bowl matchup against Mississippi State when a fight broke out on Friday. The incident took place in the second quarter when Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss' would-be fumble was called on the field when the Rebels were leading 14-7.

Chambliss appeared to fumble the football after being tackled by Mississippi State linebacker Malick Sylla on a second-and-8 from the Bulldogs’ 39-yard line with 3:28 remaining in the second quarter. After the play, both teams fought for possession, and shoves were exchanged. The pushing and grabbing intensified, roping in more players, along with Rebels and Bulldogs coaches, who ran onto the field to try to break up the fight.

Both benches were cleared, and Kiffin was visibly frustrated at the situation while gesturing from the sidelines.

Ole Miss wideout Deuce Alexander and offensive lineman Delano Townsend, along with Bulldogs' Sylla, were assessed offsetting personal foul penalties. However, no players were ejected after the scrum.

At halftime, Kiffin spoke about the fight.

"We're trying to play clean football," Kiffin told ABC's broadcast. "For a whole sideline try to fight and leave their whole sideline, including their athletic director, I've never seen anything like it. So I'm just trying to remind (the refs), we're just trying to play football here.

"We're not trying to start a fight, so our university can get credit for fighting people ... Our guys stayed on the side line like they're supposed to."

At the time of writing, Ole Miss has a 21-10 lead over MSU at halftime.

Before the Rebels vs. Bulldogs game got underway, Lane Kiffin revealed that some Mississippi State students broke into the Ole Miss locker room at around 3 a.m. and stole quarterback Trinidad Chambliss’ jersey.

Kiffin also said that Ole Miss’ equipment czar, Ken Crain, had placed surveillance cameras in the locker room in anticipation of such an incident before the Egg Bowl.

The Rebels are on course to make history if they beat Mississippi State on Friday. An Ole Miss win could potentially secure a College Football Playoff berth for Kiffin's team.
