Sherrone Moore's second season in charge of the No. 15 Michigan Wolverines took a big hit during rivalry week. The Wolverines took on the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes at Michigan Stadium and slumped to a 27-9 defeat on Saturday.
The Buckeyes had a slow start, scoring just three points in the first quarter against six from the Wolverines. However, it was all red after that period. Ohio State secured a commanding win, improving to 12-0 and giving Michigan (9-3) its third loss.
Michigan's performance didn't please fans, and many expressed their frustration with head coach Sherrone Moore on social media.
"You paid Bryce Underwood $12M and Sherrone Moore and Chip Lindsey want to run an offense as if John O’Korn is still your QB. There is zero creativity. Total coaching malpractice," one fan said.
"Michigan is paying Underwood 12 Million dollars. Our 2 best RBs are out and we are still refusing to throw the ball lol. Sherrone Moore is the worst coach in the NCAA," another fan said.
"It’s been that way every single game of the Moore era Literally every game And 99% of the time it gets stuffed Coaching malpractice," another fan said.
"Sherrone Moore is not a legitimate head coach," one fan said.
"FIRE MOORE. THIS IS JUST UNACCEPTABLE," another fan said.
"@PatMcAfeeShow Michigan needs to fire Moore. I haven’t seen worse QB play from a top school ever. From JJ disaster McCarthy under Harbaugh to Bryce Smellslikewood. It’s pathetic to watch a QB who can’t throw. Maybe they should steal signs again," another fan said.
Dissecting Michigan Wolverines' performance against Ohio State
The Michigan Wolverines struggled against the Ohio State Buckeyes, both collectively and individually. Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood went 8 of 18 for 63 yards with one interception. On the other end, Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin finished 19 of 26 for 233 yards and three touchdowns with one interception.
The Wolverines tallied 163 total yards, while the Buckeyes racked up 419. Michigan recorded nine first downs against 22 from Ohio State, who also led in third-down efficiency (10-17 against 1-9).
The Wolverines had possession for only 19:59, while the Buckeyes held the ball for 40:01.
The Wolverines have improved on their 8-5 finish last season, but Saturday's offensive performance was a step back. They barely beat Ohio State last year (13-10), and their dominance over their archrivals appears to have come to an end.
