Texas coach Steve Sarkisian is hyped for his team's regular-season finale against No. 3 Texas A&M on Friday. The No. 17 Longhorns are still in with a chance of making the College Football Playoff, but need to beat their crosstown rivals convincingly to get a postseason berth.

On Tuesday, Sarkisian said that the Texas-Texas A&M rivalry deserved the spotlight for a Friday night blockbuster.

“I like that (for) this game that we get an opportunity to stand alone,” Sarkisian said. “Okay, so whether it’s Thanksgiving or Friday after Thanksgiving, I just think this game deserves the spotlight to stand alone, and the fact that we’re playing on Friday night with all the eyes of college football on it, really the football world on this game. I think this game deserves that. So whatever that looks like. Again, I’m not the decision maker on that. But I do think this is a great opportunity for us.

“You know, last year we were a Saturday night game, and we were up against some other games. So this year, being Friday night, I think it is good for the game.”

Sarkisian's Texas beat the Aggies 17-7 last season. It was the first time the two teams had played since 2011.

This season, the unbeaten Aggies (11-0, 7-0 Southeastern Conference) are the favorites for the Week 14 game on Friday, which will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET from Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Last week, rumors circulated that Steve Sarkisian might leave Texas for a coaching role elsewhere in the country. However, the Longhorns coach put those rumors to bed on Wednesday.

"I’m not going anywhere," Sarkisian said on Wednesday. "Never do I do this because I never want to be a distraction, so I never address these things. But at this point now, I feel like it is important that I do this because it’s important for our team, it’s important for our university.”

Sarkisian signed a contract extension at Texas in the offseason, which keeps him at the team through the 2031 season.
