Steve Sarkisian's No. 20 Texas Longhorns (6-2) will square off against the No. 9 Vanderbilt Commodores (7-1) on Saturday for their Week 10 clash. The game will kick off at noon ET from Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas.
However, Texas will be without its star safety Michael Taaffe for the clash against Vanderbilt. The defensive back will miss his second straight game with a thumb injury.
Taaffe, who is Texas' defensive captain, has enjoyed a solid season so far. He has 51 tackles (28 solo), 1.0 sacks and one interception.
The Longhorns felt Taaffe's absence in their overtime win over Mississippi State last Saturday, when they allowed a season-high 382 passing yards to Bulldogs quarterback Blake Shapen.
Redshirt freshman Xavier Filsaime is expected to play in Taaffe's place.
According to On3's Pete Nakos, Taaffe underwent surgery on Oct. 15. The Longhorns are hopeful that he can complete his rehab during their BYE Week and return for their road game against Georgia on Nov. 15.
Steve Sarkisian's Texas expected to start Arch Manning as QB vs. Vanderbilt

Steve Sarkisian's Texas was concerned about quarterback Arch Manning's availability for the matchup against Vanderbilt. Manning had been in the concussion protocols after taking a hit against Mississippi State last Saturday.
However, reports claim that Manning has cleared the concussion protocols.
Texas was expected to make a game-time decision around Manning, but since the QB is cleared to play, he is expected to start against the Commodores.
Manning has 1,795 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, six interceptions and six rushing TDs this season. However, Texas cannot afford to lose another game in its quest for making the College Football Playoff.
