Steve Sarkisian's No. 10 Texas suffered a crushing 35-10 loss to No. 5 Georgia in Week 12 on Saturday. The disappointment of the Longhorns' loss sparked a rather unusual reaction from ESPN "College GameDay" analyst Desmond Howard, who posted a video on X on Monday, highlighting the job security around Sarkisian. “Don’t be surprised if that Texas job opens up at the end of the season," Howard said in the video. "You guys were shocked when LSU opened up. Imagine how you’re going to feel if that job in Austin pops open. I’m not calling or saying anyone’s going to get fired. There may be a mutual parting of ways, you dig?”Although Howard appeared to float a rumor that Sarkisian's job might leave the Longhorns, Texas' athletic director, Chris Del Conte, shut down the speculation. "This is news to me… Thanks for the insight," Del Conte tweeted in response to the video, followed by an index finger pointing at the viewer and facepalm emojis. Texas hired Sarkisian in January 2021. He signed a reported six-year, $34.2 million contract to take charge as the school's football coach.Last season, Sarkisian led the Longhorns to the College Football Playoff, where his team lost to Ohio State in the semifinals. Earlier this offseason, Sarkisian signed a contract extension with the Longhorns, which ties him down to the team through the 2031 season.
