Julian Sayin had initially signed as an early enrollee with Alabama in 2023. However, he entered the transfer portal and joined the Ohio State Buckeyes after Nick Saban's retirement in January 2024.

During his redshirt freshman campaign, he served as the backup to Will Howard. Ohio State went on to be crowned as the undefeated national champions, after which Howard declared for the 2025 NFL draft.

This season, Julian Sayin was named the starting quarterback of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Before Saturday's Big Ten championship game, he helped Ryan Day's team to an undefeated 12-0 (9-0 Big Ten) record. The quarterback recorded 3,065 yards and 30 TDs passing with five interceptions to his name.

Ryan Day gets real on offensive coordinator Brian Hartline's departure from Ohio State

On Wednesday, before the Big Ten championship game against Indiana, Ryan Day suffered a big blow to his coaching staff. Offensive coordinator Brian Hartline agreed to take over as the new coach of the USF Bulls.

He will stay with the Buckeyes for this season's playoffs before departing for his new job. After the devastating news, Day said that Hartline's decision caught them off guard.

"I think it sort of caught everybody a little off guard, how quickly it happened, it was on signing day," Day said. "That's not what Brian had in his mind when he thought about this, but this is sort of college football right now.
"We'll do a good job of focusing on winning the game this week. He's gonna be a huge part of that this week. He's gonna give us all his all this week to make sure we go win the Big Ten championship and then finish out the season the right way."
