“Just shut up already”: Paul Finebaum puts Notre Dame fans in place after being snubbed by CFP committee

Paul Finebaum could hardly contain his excitement at Notre Dame missing out on the playoffs. Following the news, the SEC analyst said that Notre Dame fans are in contention for the worst fan base in America, adding that they should "shut up already."

Marcus Freeman's troops missed out on the CFP despite posting a 10-2 record in the 2025 regular season. The Fighting Irish lost their first two fixtures of the season to the Miami Hurricanes and Texas A&M Aggies, then went on to win their remaining 10 games.

The Alabama Crimson Tide and Miami Hurricanes got the nod rather than the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Crimson Tide posted a 10-3 record while the Miami Hurricanes finished 10-2.

There are reports that the Fighting Irish likely missed the CFP because they are an independent program. In contrast, the Alabama Crimson Tide plays in the SEC while the Miami Hurricanes represent the ACC.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish headline CFP snubs

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish aren't the only major program set to miss out on this year's playoffs. The BYU Cougars, Texas Longhorns, and Vanderbilt Commodores will watch the action from home.

The BYU Cougars are one of just eight Power Four conference teams that won at least 11 games this season. The Cougars are the only ones that didn't make the playoffs. It's yet another season of double-digit wins and no playoffs for the Cougars.

The Texas Longhorns entered the regular season as the No. 1-ranked team in the country. Their 9-3 record means they'll miss the playoffs for the first time in three seasons. Their snub comes despite impressive wins over Oklahoma, Vanderbilt and Texas A&M.

Speaking of Vanderbilt, Clark Lea's team won't feature in the postseason despite their ten-win campaign. The best season in the program's history isn't enough to earn them a spot in the 12-team CFP field.

• No. 20 Tulane Green Wave (AAC Champion) vs. No. 6 Ole Miss Rebels (at-large)… The winner faces the Georgia Bulldogs
• No. 10 Miami Hurricanes (at-large) vs. No. 7 Texas A&M Aggies (at-large)… The winner faces the Ohio State Buckeyes
