Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin may be a suitable candidate to become the next Penn State football head coach, according to Ben Roethlisberger. The former Pittsburgh quarterback made the suggestion on the latest episode of his podcast, Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger. The Ohio-born Steelers legend agreed with the growing voice of fans that it is time Tomlin left the franchise. The coach is currently the longest-serving NFL coach, having been at Pittsburgh since 2007.“It’s being talked about around here a lot: maybe it’s a clean-house time. Maybe it’s time,” Roethlisberger said.He continued:“I like Coach Tomlin. I have a lot of respect for Coach Tomlin. But maybe it’s best for him, too. Maybe a fresh start for him is what’s best. Whether that’s in the pros, maybe go be Penn State’s head coach. You know what he would do at Penn State? He would probably go win national championships. Because he’s a greater recruiter.”Roethlisberger’s comment has drawn different reactions from fans, especially on X. Real Red Rudy wrote:“FUCK NO! He wants Tomlin gone from the Steelers. Just say it and stop using the college coaching stuff as a soft landing.”Teehay also commented:“Is there an example of a successful NFL coach going down to college and then doing well? Usually, the NFL coach doesn’t cut it at that level, then goes down from my recollection, which isn’t Tomlin.”JohnQ wrote:“College and pro are two totally different animals. Just look at Belichick; he is a perfect example. Grass isn’t always greener on the other side.”Gold Smith asked:“Are they trying to get rid of Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh?”Mike Tomlin’s situation at PittsburghMike Tomlin has yet to have a losing season as the Steelers’ head coach. However, the Super Bowl-winning coach has also not led the Steelers to a playoff win since 2017, exiting in the first round multiple times. The team is 6-6 going into Week 14, with no respite in sight, especially after losing 26-7 at home to the Buffalo Bills. Calls for Tomlin to be fired were heard at Acrisure Stadium last Sunday, adding to the already tense situation within the organization.
