“It’s ChatGPT,” “Pure class”: CFB fans react as Hugh Freeze pens gratitude-filled letter to players & staff after getting fired by Auburn

The Auburn Tigers fired Hugh Freeze from his coaching role at the program, the team announced on Sunday. Freeze was fired a day after Auburn's 10-3 loss to Kentucky in Week 10.

Later on Sunday, Freeze released a heartfelt note filled with gratitude to Auburn's players and staff. However, many fans on social media mocked the coach for seemingly using AI to write his tribute.

Some sent their well-wishes to Freeze.

"Pure class…I really wanted it to work and I’m sad it didn’t. Thanks Coach! You’ll always be a part of the Auburn Family," one wrote.

"Most coaches don't have the class to say something gracious on the way out. You did a lot better than the record showed," another added.

"Really appreciate all your efforts. Have no doubt that no one is more disappointed than you that things have not gone as well as you hoped and strove so hard for. Truly sad that things haven't worked out, but wishing you and your family the best in the days ahead," a user tweeted.

Auburn confirmed that defensive coordinator DJ Durkin will serve as the team's interim head coach after Freeze's firing.

How much will Auburn pay Hugh Freeze for his buyout?

According to reports, Auburn will pay Hugh Freeze $15.8 million as part of his buyout. ESPN reported that the figure is not subject to offsetting based on Freeze's future employment.

Auburn hired Freeze in November 2022. He compiled a 15-19 record in just under three years.

Following the loss to Kentucky, Auburn fell to a 4-5 record (1-5 in Southeastern Conference) this season.
