Mike Elko has done a fabulous job with the No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies this season. The Aggies are one of the few teams that still boast an unbeaten record and are on course to make the College Football Playoff.
On Saturday, reports claimed that the Aggies are finalizing a lucrative six-year contract extension to keep Elko at the helm for the long haul. The deal will see Elko receive more than $11 million annually, which led to some wild reactions on social media.
"High school coach energy," one tweeted.
"Moments before disaster," another added.
"All this just to lose today," a third commented.
Here are a few more reactions.
"Home boy has a game in an hour and is out here making money decisions," one wrote.
"Good move since he’s won all those titles, oh shoot, my bad," another added.
"You just can’t even feel bad for these schools…" a user tweeted.
Texas A&M hired Elko in November 2023. He led the Aggies to an 8-5 record in his first year at the helm last season.
Per reports, Elko will become one of the top-10 highest-paid college football coaches in the country if he puts pen to paper on his extension.
