Kansas State football players have voted to decline bowl invites this postseason as head coach Chris Klieman steps into retirement. Klieman led the Wildcats to a 6-6 finish this fall, beating Colorado 24-14 in their season finale last week.
With the win, Kansas State attained bowl eligibility for the fifth straight season under Klieman and the sixth overall in his tenure. However, reports indicate the Wildcats will not be honoring any bowl invite this postseason following a players’ vote earlier this month.
The news is generating different reactions from fans across the internet, including on social media platforms like Instagram. Q_Yording wrote:
“Going to be a theme. NCAA would be wise to create and reshape the bowl games: create an NIT style for 13-25 ranked teams and provide the schools with (lower) financial incentive for making it.”

“So all their seniors voted for their careers to be over?”
Michie Memes noted:
“Army beat them so bad they lost the desire to play the sport at all.”
Nate Richie commented:
“They have so many injuries, plus some are gonna be in the portal, there’s very little players left. Also, they have a coaching staff for the bowl game. It’d be just Klieman.”
Zade NHF also commented:
“Just quit giving everybody bowl games, make 8-4/9-3 the minimum. It’ll at least kinda make bowls mean something again.”

“They need to make bowl games for teams at least 7-5. You should have to be over .500.”

Chris Klieman’s Kansas State coaching record
Chris Klieman has spent the past seven seasons coaching the Wildcats, with a considerable amount of success to show for it. His highest point as Kansas State coach is undoubtedly the Big 12 title win in 2022.
The 58-year-old is leaving the program with a 54-34 record, including a 3-2 bowl record. His replacement is already lined up, as his former lieutenant and Kansas State legend Collin Klein is set to return as head coach.
Klein was Chris Klieman’s offensive coordinator in his conference title-winning season. The former quarterback left for Texas A&M following the 2023 season. He has since developed one of the best offenses in college football, helping the Aggies to an 11-1 finish this fall.
While Klein’s hiring has been confirmed, he is expected to remain with the Aggies this postseason as they prepare for their playoff run.
