Alabama fans have wildly turned on Kalen DeBoer following the Crimson Tide’s shambolic performance in the SEC championship game on Saturday. In what was a rematch of their 24-21 regular-season win, the Tide suffered a 28-7 defeat at the hands of Georgia in Atlanta.
The Bulldogs dominated every facet of the game from the beginning to the end. While the Crimson Tide ended the game with 209 total yards, they were limited to just 82 total yards at the end of the third quarter, with Kirby Smart's team holding a comfortable 21-0 lead.
With the absence of Jam Miller, Alabama practically had no run game against Georgia on Saturday. They were only able to gain 10 yards at the end of the third quarter. That was all down the drain at the end of the game, as the Crimson Tide finished with -3 rushing yards.
Kalen DeBoer and his staff had no answer to Georgia’s dominance in the game at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. It was the coach’s third encounter against the Bulldogs as Alabama's coach, winning the previous two. The loss places the Crimson Tide's playoff hopes in question.
The unimpressive performance in the team's biggest game of the season has led to a widespread call by the fans for Kalen DeBoer to be fired. The coach is in his second season in Tuscaloosa after replacing Nick Saban, who announced his retirement in January 2024.
Here's a look at some of the reactions online:
Kalen DeBoer proud of the team despite the loss
In his postgame press conference, Kalen DeBoer noted that he's proud of his team despite the performance in Atlanta. It's one of the most disappointing outings for the Crimson Tide this season, but the coach is focusing on the positive side.
“You've got two teams out there, know each other pretty well here over the last two seasons and what the strengths are,” DeBoer said. “Two teams that fight, two teams that play hard. Got to this point and laid it out on the line, so I'm proud of our guys.
“I'll never question the heart of the fight and what these guys bring. You can see at the end of the game, these guys are still giving everything they got, both sides of the ball, all faces. Fell short today, but proud of the season and getting to an SEC championship, getting to this spot, a lot to build off of.”
It could be a loss too many for Alabama if they get left out of the playoff on Sunday. The Crimson Tide missed out on the playoffs in Kalen DeBoer's first season, and they are on the brink of doing so again.
