"FSU should be relegated out of ACC": CFB fans react to Mike Norvell's Seminoles and Notre Dame reportedly cancelling 2026 game

Mike Norvell's Florida State will not host Notre Dame for a game in 2026 since the game has been cancelled, according to reports. The FSU-Notre Dame matchup was announced in 2017 as part of an extension to the Fighting Irish's football scheduling agreement through 2037, in which the program continued its pledge to face off against five ACC teams per year.

Due to the ACC moving to a nine-game conference schedule, FSU has reportedly cancelled next season's game against Notre Dame. FSU had removed the game from its schedule, after which On3's Eric Hansen reported that it had been canceled.

Fans on social media had a range of reactions to the news.

"Thanks to ACC expansion, but this is a damn joke. FSU should have canceled Central Arkansas. Alabama and Florida are being played, but FSU should be a standard of playing the best and beating the best. No excuses, sick of this running scared crap. According to reports, FSU still has four more scheduled games vs. Notre Dame, in 2029, 2030, 2032 and 2036.

As things stand, FSU's 2026 schedule features eight conference games and three non-conference fixtures (vs. Alabama, Central Arkansas, and Florida).

Mike Norvell's Florida State will face Clemson in Week 11 of the 2025 season

Mike Norvell's Florida State (4-4, 1-4) will face the Clemson Tigers (3-5, 2-4) in Week 11 on Saturday. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. ET from Clemson Memorial Stadium in South Carolina.

Clemson has struggled this season and is currently on a two-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, FSU enters the game on the back of a 42-7 win over Wake Forest last Saturday.

Mike Norvell will want his team to get at least two more wins in the regular season so the Seminoles can be eligible for a bowl game.
