Arch Manning injury update: Latest news on Texas QB's concussion protocol for Vanderbilt matchup (Week 10)

Arch Manning has been in the spotlight for the No. 20 Texas Longhorns ahead of their Week 10 clash against the No. 9 Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday. Manning suffered a concussion on the first snap of overtime in the Longhorns’ 45-38 win against Mississippi State last Saturday.

While Texas has been sweating on Manning's availability against Vanderbilt, reports claim that the Longhorns will make a game-time decision on whether to field their star quarterback.

Manning spent the week in Texas' concussion protocol, but he returned to practice on Wednesday. The Longhorns' QB was listed as questionable on the team's Wednesday night injury report.

On Thursday, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian offered an update on Arch Manning. He also said that Matthew Caldwell might start against Vanderbilt if Manning is unable to clear the concussion protocols.

"I don't have anything beyond for Arch just because we have to follow the protocol of the days and the reps, but he's making good progress," Sarkisian said. "We haven't changed anything that we've done. The game plan is the game plan. All of his teammates have confidence in Matt if it's his time to go."

Manning has looked solid for Texas this season, recording 1,795 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, six interceptions and six rushing TDs. However, the Longhorns cannot afford to lose another game if they want to qualify for the College Football Playoff.

However, Caldwell did a fine job when he came on for Manning against Mississippi State, throwing the game-winning touchdown.
