Clark Lea has agreed to terms on a six-year contract extension as Vanderbilt's coach, reports claimed on Friday. The Commanders offered a new deal with a salary hike for Lea amid several teams reportedly showing interest in their coach.
However, when fans found out that Vanderbilt had agreed to a six-year extension with Lea, they slammed the program and the coach.
"All this to never beat Tennessee," one tweeted.
"Should have waited until after the a*s whopping he’s going to get on Saturday," another added.
"Guess we’ll see how he does without Pavia.. hopefully the buyout isn’t insane!" a third commented.
Here are a few more reactions.
"Back to same Vanderbilt as soon as Pavia and all these seniors are gone after this season," one wrote.
"Free wins for Tennessee continue," another added.
"Buddy really passed on much better jobs Vandy will be a doormat again in a few years," a user tweeted.
Vanderbilt hired Lea in December 2020. He has compiled a 25-35 record so far.
After a challenging start, Lea led Vanderbilt to a winning season for the first time in 2024. He earned the program a historic first win over a No. 1 team when the Commodores toppled Alabama.
This season, the No. 14 Commodores (9-2, 5-2 Southeastern Conference) are in contention to make the College Football Playoff.
Clark Lea's Vanderbilt will face Tennessee in Week 14 of the 2025 college football season

Clark Lea's Vanderbilt will face No. 19 Tennessee (8-3, 4-3 Southeastern Conference) in Week 14 of the 2025 season on Saturday. The game will kick off at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee.
A big win for Vanderbilt in its regular-season finale could see Lea's team qualify for the College Football Playoff. However, the Vols will put up a stern test for the Commodores.
