Check your Tac-map; there will be expected arrival areas, and when it arrives, you can see it falling from the sky from almost everywhere on the map. Hence, there is no specific location to find the Colossus; you can spot it from anywhere.

Dealing with a threat like this is never easy. If you are planning on jumping into battle at the start, that's not a good idea at all. You need to have at least 45 CR or higher in order to face this threat. CR is Combat Rating, which you can increase by facing other threats on the map.
