Despite Black Ops 7's negative reviews and a 60% drop in sales for this installment, Call of Duty has still managed to stay in the top positions in the console active users list. Black Ops 7 launched on November 14, 2025, and showed weak sales numbers that were far lower than its competitor, Battlefield 6.

This article will explore the reasons why Call of Duty still maintains a top position and whether it will be able to retain its leading place in the future.

Black Ops 7's weak launch didn't stop Call of Duty from maintaining its top positions in the console active user charts

Circana recently revealed the weekly active user charts for both Xbox and PlayStation. For Xbox, Call of Duty is currently at Rank 1. For PlayStation, it is in second position, with Fortnite in the first spot.

Given the weak launch of Black Ops 7, where its sales numbers were significantly lower, so you may wonder how Call of Duty still manages to stay at the top.

Many users are loyal to CoD despite the weak launch. Also, the chart did not mention Black Ops 7 specifically. It listed Call of Duty HQ, which acts as an umbrella that includes Warzone and other CoD titles. Warzone's main player base comes from consoles, and this is likely the primary reason Call of Duty has remained at the top of the charts.

As for the future, it is uncertain, but with Season 1 incoming and Warzone getting integrated with Black Ops 7, the future seems positive. With many new content and gameplay enhancements planned to expand the gaming experience, there is a high chance that Call of Duty may retain its top position in the future.
