Ja Morant’s increasing struggles after the Memphis Grizzlies suspended him early this month have opened a floodgate of trade speculations. Boston Celtics great Paul Pierce added on Friday another scenario for Morant and the Grizzlies to consider. Pierce, via the “No Fouls Given," proposed a swap between the controversial guard and Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young.Pierce said:“I love it for Ja Morant. I love him with those young guys. Sometimes, it’s not about a change of city, it’s just a change of scenery.”Pierce remained wary that the distractions in Atlanta, which he said were way more than in Memphis, could be disruptive. But, he expressed faith in the former All-Star guard to get his act right.Danny Green, another co-host of the podcast, added that he believed Morant was mature enough to do what is right. For Green, he thought that with access to “opportunities” in Atlanta, Morant would spend more time at home with his family instead of going out with friends.Pierce’s proposal contradicted former NFL MVP Cam Newton’s caution for Morant early this month. Newton wanted Morant to avoid the big cities like Atlanta, New York, and Dallas to stay out of distractions and complications.A straight swap for Trae Young, who signed a five-year, $215.1 million contract with the Hawks in 2021, might not entice the Grizzlies. Ja Morant has close to three more years left in his current deal, while Young could become a free agent next season.“Ice Trae,” who could not get an extension in the summer, has a $48.9 million player option in 2026. Unless the Hawks include first-round draft picks, the Grizzlies aren’t likely to give up Morant for what might be a less than a year of rental with Young.Ja Morant is struggling badly in NovemberLast month, Ja Morant averaged 20.8 points, 6.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. He shot 40.6%, including 15.6% from behind the arc. The Grizzlies suspended him for one game to open November for “conduct detrimental to the team.”Since then, Morant’s shooting struggles have only increased. This month, he is putting up 16.6 ppg, 9.8 apg, 4.2 rpg and 1.2 spg. The ultra-athletic guard is shooting just 28.7%, including 17.9% from deep.Morant recently suffered an ankle injury. He has been cleared to play, though, for Saturday’s clash against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
