Jaylen Brown might be in some hot water and would need PR help after his comments about Scottie Barnes of the Toronto Raptors on Monday. Brown was streaming ahead of the Boston Celtics' quarterfinal matchup in the 2025 Emirates NBA Cup against the Detroit Pistons. On his latest live stream, Brown discussed the Celtics' 121-113 win over the Raptors on Sunday. He talked about how good the young Toronto team has been this season, especially Barnes. He praised Barnes' strength, though he might have used a bad analogy depending on perspective. "Scottie Barnes is strong as sh*t," Brown said. "That motherf*cker got that extra chromosome strength. He's like a ninja turtle or something. My boy was strong as hell."Jaylen Brown's remarks about Scottie Barnes can be interpreted in two ways. With the sheer mention of the word chromosome, some fans might think it's a diss to Barnes. One of the most viral rumors about the Toronto Raptors star over the years is that he has autism, which has never been proven. There are people who still confuse autism with having Down syndrome, so the comments might come off as wrong. People with Down syndrome have an extra chromosome 21, so the condition is called Trisomy 21.On the other hand, Brown could also be praising Barnes' strength as otherworldly. Chromosomes are also associated with mutation, plus he mentioned the ninja turtles in his analogy. The 2024 NBA Finals MVP also called Barnes his "boy," so it is most likely a compliment to his improving strength. Mazzulla gave Barnes his flowers following the Celtics' win over the Toronto Raptors. "Nothing different, I think he just continues to get better," Mazzulla said, according to Sports Illustrated. "I mean, he's a guy that can handle in pick-and-rolls, can set in pick-and-rolls, can beat you off the dribble. His shot has gotten better and better. He gets to the free-throw line. You know, I think all of the areas in which you can score, he just continues to get better and better at."If the Raptors can have a winning record by the end of January, there's a chance that Barnes, as well as Brandon Ingram, could be selected for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game.
