The Mavericks started the game with Cooper Flagg, Anthony Davis, Max Christie, P.J. Washington and Ryan Nembhard. The Lakers stuck to their usual starting five of LeBron James, Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura and Deandre Ayton.

The Lakers jumped to a 10-7 lead after Reaves knocked down a 3-pointer to start the game. Doncic found James for a perfect lob dunk before Reaves unleashed a transition dunk, forcing a timeout from Dallas coach Jason Kidd. The early offense for the Mavericks came from Max Christie, who knocked down his first two 3-pointers.

Gabe Vincent came off the bench and knocked a 3-pointer from either corner. Doncic raced to 10 points despite being double-teamed for most of the period, as the Lakers ended the first quarter with a 28-22 lead.

The Mavericks dominated the second quarter, using their size, length and athleticism to disrupt the Lakers on both ends. The visitors won the second quarter 40-32 and took a 62-60 lead into halftime.

The Lakers went on a 22-8 run in the middle of the third quarter on the back of Reaves' red-hot shooting from deep. The Lakers guard made six of his first seven 3-pointers and raced to 28 points on just 12 shots. The Lakers won the period 38-32 and took a 98-94 lead into the final frame.
