The Los Angeles Dodgers became the first team since the New York Yankees to win back-to-back World Series titles this year and they have Japanese ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto to thank for it.The Japanese starter chipped in with historic postseason performances, earning the World Series MVP award after the Dodgers' triumph in the Fall Classic.Following the win, Yamamoto surprised the Dodgers fans by speaking fluent English during the World Series celebrations at Dodger Stadium. While he finished third in the NL Cy Young voting this year, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts feels he might contend for the title with Shohei Ohtani next season."I think this year, he (Ohtani) pitched better than I expected, given (he was) coming off surgery," Roberts said. "And this offseason, he’s going to have a regular offseason. I think he absolutely could win a Cy Young, but I think Yamamoto is going to have something to say about it too.”Although Roberts is backing is Japanese ace, Yamamoto will face a tough test in his bid to challenge reigning NL Cy Young winner Paul Skenes, who racked up all 30 first-place votes this year to claim the title unanimously.
