"My son's been so mad about it" - When Wilmer Flores joked about how his & wife Ivonelis' 2-year-old baby has responded to Giants' locker room rule

Wilmer Flores showed a strong bounce back from his injury-marred 2024 season. While his numbers in the current season didn't reach the highs of 2023, he improved significantly over 2024, particularly in home runs and overall hitting metrics.

However, rumors swirled about Flores around the trade deadline when the Giants went on a six-game losing streak to the New York Mets and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The losing streak seemed to affect Flores' two-year-old son the most.

Talking with Athletics' Giants beat writer Andrew Baggarly on August 2nd, Flores joked about it.

"Oh, my God, I know. He’s been so mad about it," Flores said. "We lose a game, he stays in the family room, crying, because he wants to come in."

Bob Melvin, the Giants' then-manager, didn't allow players' children to be in the locker room if the team lost. During the Giants' tough stretch, Flores' son couldn't enjoy clubhouse time with his father and hence felt very sad.

The rule certainly motivates players who are fathers to do their best to win the game. If that doesn't materialize, Flores plans to shower quickly and meet his son.

Like Wilmer Flores, his wife is also from Venezuela. The couple now resides between Miami and San Francisco, Flores' team city. While the exact date of their marriage is unknown, they have been in a relationship since at least 2021.

The couple's son, Wilmer Jose, was born on February 23, 2023. They celebrated little Wilmer's first birthday in grand style with friends and family. On the special day, the Giants slugger shared moments from the occasion on his Instagram.

"My first year happy birthday my baby we love you ❤️," Flores captioned the post [Translated to Spanish from English].

The cover of the post was a video clip highlighting the birthday celebration. The clip began with cartoons from the popular children's series "Baby Shark," wishing little Wilmer in Spanish. The clip then showed several short clips from the occasion.

Followed by the clip, the post showed Flores, his wife, and other family and acquaintances posing with the child. Couple of snaps featured all those who came to celebrate little Wilmer.
