This year's edition of the World Series, which sees the Los Angeles Dodgers locking horns with the Toronto Blue Jays, is proving to be one of the most well-matched Fall Classic showdowns in recent memory.

With both outfits having excellent hitting and pitching options at their disposal, the games between them have been extremely hard-fought. Case in point being the marathon Game 3.

Monday's clash, which went all the way to 18 innings before the Dodgers came out on top 6-5, was the joint-longest game (in terms of innings played) in World Series history. The only other game that went to 18 innings also involved the Dodgers, in their triumph over the Red Sox back in 2018. Although the Dodgers lost that series in five games, that win also came in a Game 3, a 3-2 victory.

In terms of time, the game went on for 6 hours and 39 minutes. This makes it the second-longest World Series game of all time, behind the Dodgers' win against the Red Sox from 2018, which went on for 7 hours and 20 minutes.

Freddie Freeman also made history with more World Series heroics for the LA Dodgers

After the end of play on Monday, it was not only the two teams that had made World Series history.

Freddie Freeman, who helped his team win the clash with a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 18th inning, also made history, making himself the first player to hit multiple walk-off home runs in World Series history.

The first of those came last season, as he hit an iconic walk-off grand slam in Game 1 of the Fall Classic against the New York Yankees.

Now leading the series 2-1, Freddie Freeman and company go again on Tuesday. Shohei Ohtani starts Game 4 for the hosts, while the Blue Jays will be sending Shane Bieber to the mound.
