The Los Angeles Dodgers will face the Toronto Blue Jays in a do-or-die Game 6 on Friday at the Rogers Centre, after a 6-1 defeat in Game 5 put them on the brink of losing their crown.
With the team trailing 3-2 in the best-of-seven series, Dodgers players opted not to take a day off, turning up at Rogers Centre for a training session. MLB insider Bob Nightengale shared the update on X, writing:
"Dodgers manager Dave Roberts gave everyone on his team the option of working out tonight or taking the day off:Every player showed up at Rogers Centre for the workout."
Fans reacted to Nightengale's tweet, taking a jab at the insider on social media.
"What else are they supposed to do, sit in their hotel rooms 😂 😆"
"I mean you're one game away from not being with your team for maybe ever after this run. I'm sure you want every opportunity to enjoy this time together."
"Like what are they gonna say, 'no thanks!'
"Like there really was an option. Boss: everyone is working for free this weekend; you are too, right?"
"You would hope after getting clowned for 2 games."
"They're facing elimination. What else would they do?"
The Dodgers will have Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound with hopes of pushing the Fall Classic to Game 7. Yamamoto threw a complete game in the second game of the series.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts urges team to "compete" at plate amid offensive slump
With the Dodgers' season on the brink, Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts urged his players to compete amid their offensive struggles at the plate.
“I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about this ... and I could dive into my thoughts,” Roberts said. “But I think at the end of the day, they just have to compete and fight in the batter’s box. It’s one-on-one, the hitter versus the pitcher, and that’s it. Really. I mean, I think that that sort of mindset is all I’ll be looking for. And I expect good things to happen from that.”
Several Dodgers stars, including Freddie Freeman and Max Muncy, echoed Roberts' sentiments, acknowledging the hitters' tendency to chase pitches over the last two games at Dodger Stadium.
