Earning himself five NPB All-Star selections, two Pacific League MVP awards and several other notable accolades during his time with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, Darvish has also established himself as one of MLB's best since making the move stateside. Yu's son, Shoei, is also a talented starting pitcher. Set to graduate in 2026, Shoei is considered one of the top arms in his class. He is set to play for UC San Diego at the collegiate level, having announced his decision to commit to the Tritons in mid-August. Going by UC San Diego coach Eric Newman's scouting report, Shoei Darvish also boasts the kind of pitching ability that could see him follow in his dad's footsteps and make it to the major leagues."Shoei competes with the kind of edge and focus you expect from someone with big league pedigree. His fastball, secondary pitches and baseball IQ give him tremendous upside, and we're excited to see him grow within our program," Newman said.
