Alonso, selected by the Mets in the 2016 MLB draft, will play for a different team for the first time in his career. Alonso's wife, Haeley reminisced about their time with the franchise in an emotional Instagram post.

Haeley shared a picture from Alonso's rookie season with the team in 2019 after his move to Baltimore.

"I was looking back at pictures and videos last night of our past 7 years in New York to go down memory lane as we close out this chapter and enter a new one. As I was getting close to the beginning of my photos, I came across this picture I took of Pete after his debut game back in 2019.

"Admittedly, I burst into tears because it so vividly brought me back to that exact moment. Seeing him so dirty, so exhausted but it was the happiestI had ever seen him."

Haeley looked back at their time in the City that embraced them for the past seven seasons.

"We fell in love with New York City and lived in Manhattan for 6 years. We fell in love with the fans and their passion. Sometimes glowing, sometimes... spirited but always heartfelt. We loved this team. His teammates, coaches, staff... truly everyone. We made lifelong friends over the years and l'm forever grateful for that. Just so grateful for all of it Thank you for loving Pete."

Pete Alonso bids farewell to Mets in gratitude-filled post

The Mets, who re-signed Alonso last offseason, reportedly didn't meet the demands of the All-Star first baseman in free agency this year. However, Alonso didn't have any ill feelings towards the NL East franchise.

"New York, thank you,” Alonso wrote. “These last few years have shaped me in ways I’ll carry for the rest of my life. This city demands your best and I’m proud to look back knowing I gave everything I had into earning the privilege of wearing that jersey. You believed in me, and you made me better. With love, Polar Bear.”
