Infielder Bo Bichette played a starring role as the Toronto Blue Jays enjoyed a sensational season, winning their division for the first time since 2015 and making it to the World Series for the first time since 1993. Bichette finished the regular season with a .311 batting average, along with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs.
Blue Jays fans have naturally been clamoring for the organization to extend Bichette's stint at the Rogers Centre, with the infielder hitting free agency. However, nothing has been finalized yet.
On Thursday, the Blue Jays confirmed they had extended a qualifying offer to Bichette, which he is widely expected to reject.
"ROSTER MOVES: 🔹 INF Bo Bichette extended a Qualifying Offer for 2026 🔹 RHPs Angel Bastardo, Bowden Francis, Yimi García and Nick Sandlin reinstated from 60-day IL 🔹 C Brandon Valenzuela selected to Major League roster 🔹 RHPs Ryan Burr and Dillon Tate cleared waivers and elected free agency 🔹 RHP Robinson Piña cleared waivers, reinstated from 60-day IL, and assigned outright to Triple-A" the post read
Fans did not appear to be best pleased, imploring the organization to begin long-term negotiations before it was too late.
"That's the best you can do for Bo?" a fan wrote.
"Not enough for Bo😡" another fan commented
"You give 500mil to Vladdy then a QO to Bo💀" another fan replied
"oh ffs, Bo Bichette will not be playing for the Blue Jays any longer. There are teams that will pay him what he's worth🙂" another fan responded.

"We need Bo and they better pay him !!" another fan posted.
"Both the Blue Jays and Bo need the market" - Insider on Bo Bichette's free agency
Speaking about Bo Bichette's free agency during an episode of "Blue Jays" today in mid-September, insider Shi Davidi offered an interesting perspective on the situation.
"I've really felt that both the Blue Jays and Bo Bichette need the market a little bit, to figure out what the right number is. I think Bichette is a bit of a unique player in terms of how you value him.
"So, helping the Blue Jays in this instance would be the market, like how do other teams see him? I think the Blue Jays have shown in extending Guerrero that they have the ability to make these kinds of moves. For Bichette, I think the key priority for him all along has been being in a place where he can win, the Blue Jays have taken a significant turn towards that," Davidi said [25:39]
Having missed out on World Series glory this season, the Blue Jays will be looking to go one better in 2026. Whether Bo Bichette can lead their charge once again remains to be seen.
