Toronto Blue Jays ace Shane Bieber has opted in to a one-year, $16 million deal to remain with the team for the 2026 season. Bieber was traded to the Blue Jays by the Cleveland Guardians in July. He had an option to either become a free agent or stay with the team on a $16 million salary.On Wednesday, Bieber's wife Kara Maxine Bieber celebrated the news with a cozy dinner with her husband and their newborn son Kav McClain. During the World Series at Dodger Stadium, Bieber paid tribute to the city of Toronto and the Blue Jays.“Obviously the first time I’ve ever been traded, so I didn’t know what to expect,” Bieber said. “Ultimately I feel like the organization, the families within it, my teammates, their families, have helped my wife and I acclimate better than I have expected. It’s been an absolute pleasure.”Bieber was traded by Cleveland shortly after Kav was born. Before the World Series started, Bieber credited the Blue Jays for making the move to a new city easier while he was recovering from Tommy John surgery.“I feel like a lot of credit has to go to the Toronto Blue Jays and how easy they made that move,” Bieber said. “Especially just going from being in Cleveland for the last nine years and working my way back to the Major Leagues post Tommy John (surgery) and having all of that happen at the end of July.“It was a whirlwind, but looking back they made it as easy as possible and now we find ourselves in the World Series. I couldn’t be happier.”Shane Bieber and Kara will now remain in Toronto for another year.
