Fresh off an appearance in the World Series, the Blue Jays have been active in this year's offseason. Just this week, the organization has acquired the services of former Padres pitcher Dylan Cease and KBO League MVP Cody Ponce to boost its starting rotation. At the time of writiing, they're being linked with one of the biggest names in this year's free agency, outfielder Kyle Tucker.

After seven seasons with the Astros, Tucker made his way to the Cubs this year. He posted a .266/.377/.464 slash with an .841 OPS, 22 home runs, and 73 RBIs. Although the outfield star had a decline in terms of average production, Rockies sportscaster Ryan Spilborghs expressed his admiration towards Toronto for continuing to improve in key areas of the lineup.

"I love the aggressiveness," said Spilborghs. "I love that the Toronto Blue Jays, who have been adamant in signing big free agents [are] are going for it." (0:33-0:43)

Spilborghs further elaborated that signing Tucker is the perfect fit for the Blue Jays to churn out a more formidable lineup that will play to the outfielder's strengths.

"For Kyle Tucker, I like this fit. I like it for a whole bunch of reasons because [he has] left-handed power and it is very left-handed-heavy lineup. The type of baserunner that he is and the contact rates that he provides, I like it." (1:07-1:29)

"For the Yankees, Red Sox, for the rest of the American League, and certainly for the National League, the fact that Toronto is gearing up like they're coming after you, I think it's awesome. It also proves to you just how much money that group has. We know that this is one of the wealthiest teams in baseball and they're going for it." (1:30-1:55)

Blue Jays acquire KBO League MVP

While the Dodgers were busy signing NPB players that dominated in Japan, the Blue Jays have went a separate route and have signed a star from Korea's KBO League. It was announced on Tuesday night that the reigning AL pennant holders signed former major leaguer and KBO League MVP Cody Ponce to a three-year, $30 million contract.

Ponce last played for the Hanwha Eagles in South Korea and posted a 17-1 record across 29 starts and a 1.89 ERA. This garnered him the highest individual honor in the league in his maiden season with the club. The young pitcher, along with former Blue Jays star pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu boosted the Eagles to the first Korean Series appearance since 2006 before falling to the LG Twins.

Just last year, the Jays also signed a former major leaguer that spent one season in the KBO League in the form of Eric Lauer, who played for the Kia Tigers and won the 2024 Korean Series.
