Two pitches after a benches-clearing incident, George Springer hit a line drive straight back at LA Dodgers reliever Justin Wrobleski in Game 7 of the World Series on Saturday.Earlier, Wrobelski struck Blue Jays shortstop Andrés Giménez on the right hand with a 96.4 mph fastball. Giménez exchanged words with Wrobleski, resulting in benches being cleared for a brief time. Since the situation de-escalated quickly, the umpires moved on without any ejections. At the time, the Blue Jays led 3-1.Springer then responded by hitting a pitch right back at Wrobleski, prompting Toronto fans to cheer.Blue Jays fans made their feelings known on social media."Right after warnings were issued," one fan commented."Still a cheater," one fan wrote, citing Springer's alleged involvement in Houston Astros' sign stealing scandal during their 2017 World Series run."That’s karma at its finest," one fan added."Couldn’t have planned it better 🤣" one fan said."Needed to be the face at 120 exit velo," one fan added."I like how people think it's some how retribution. Like, that's just statistics my guy," one fan posted.George Springer fouled off Justin Wrobleski, leading to injuryJustin Wrobleski and George Springer had a moment earlier in the World Series as well. In Game 3, Springer fouled off Wrobleski's 95 mph fastball and immediately grabbed his right side. He was in discomfort and was removed from the game.“You just have to understand and kind of accept that nobody on the field is playing a hundred percent,” Springer said after the injury. “It's not just you. And at the end of the day, I don't really think anybody cares. If you're out there, you're expected to play and you're expected to perform to the best of who you are that day. So for me, it just kind of is what it is. I have a job to do, so I expect to go do it. It doesn't really matter how I feel.”Because of this discomfort, the Blue Jays held him out of the Game 4 starting lineup.Earlier in the ALCS, Springer's seventh-inning three-run home run propelled the Blue Jays into the World Series for the first time since 1993. Having won a title with the Houston Astros, Springer could add another championship to his resume.
