Fans draw references to this blockbuster deal in NHL references. One fan cited the time when the Toronto Maple Leafs signed Matt Murray, writing:

"Best way I can break it down: Remember when the Leafs signed Murray?…"

Some fans picked out equivalent NHL deals:

"It's like paying a mid goalie 10M/year (Jordan Binnington for example)," another fan added.
"Chris Kreider 10-year $11M AAV contract," one fan said.

"Stu Skinner. Good with the random ability to turn into the GOAT for no reason whatsoever," one fan added.
"Who is somebody you can’t depend on, but you want to give them a really big deal? That’s the equivalent. 😭" one fan commented.
"toronto arms itself with long‑term firepower ⚾" one fan reacted.

Overall, it appears most Toronto fans are happy with this deal, with some sharing their reservations about the long-term contract given to Cease.

Blue Jays could still look to add after signing Dylan Cease

According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the Blue Jays are still looking to add to their pitching staff, maybe not in the starting pitching front but in the bullpen.

"World Series runners-up means business this winter," Heyman wrote on X. "Have also been pursuing back-end bullpen help, more."

This is in line with early offseason reports from Ken Rosenthal that reported an interest from the Blue Jays for former New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz. They also had interest in Raisel Iglesias before he agreed to a deal with the Atlanta Braves.

Robert Suárez, Pete Fairbanks, Kenley Jansen and Ryan Helsley are some more well-known bullpen names the Blue Jays could go after.

This interest and reported signing show that the Blue Jays are trying to make their roster count. They almost tasted success last season and are not leaving any room to not improve.
