Former Mets veteran Todd Frazier on Foul Territory recently weighed in on Pete Alonso’s exit from New York after signing a 5-year $155 million deal with the Orioles. He supported the first baseman over his move to Baltimore following failed contract talks with the Mets.“I think he was a little pis*ed off," Frazier said. "And rightfully so. You see all these guys getting these big contracts. He deserved it just as much as anybody else did. And people always go back to the defense. People go by numbers and he can't get to this ball. I don't think he's that bad of a defender either.”“I think he's worked his b*** off," Frazier said. "If I'm not mistaken, he was one of the best first basemen at picking balls out of the dirt the last couple years. The guy works his butt off at first base. This Baltimore Orioles team should be ecstatic because he's going to work his rear end off. He's going to get after it.”During his stint with the Mets, Pete Alonso became one of the franchise's cornerstones, along with Edwin Diaz and Brandon Nimmo. However, they went their separate ways this offseason, with Diaz signing with the LA Dodgers and Nimmo being traded to the Texas Rangers. After Alonso’s exit, the Mets agreed to a 2-year deal with infielder Jorge Polanco on a reported $40 million contract. They are also considered one of the top candidates to sign Cody Bellinger.Ex-Mets manager Buck Showalter is excited to welcome Pete Alonso in BaltimoreBefore his stint with the NY Mets, Buck Showalter also managed the Orioles. In an exclusive interview with the NY Post, he expressed that he’s excited for Pete Alonso to find a new home in Baltimore.“That’s a good fit for Pete, a really good fit. Pete will get Baltimore and the fans in Baltimore will get Pete. If I was gonna pick a place, other than Queens, for him, Baltimore would be high on the list."“They’re not mean. They just want to see the Orioles do well and they get behind a good team. They’re really hungry,” Buck Showalter said of the Orioles fans.Even the 31-year-old called the Orioles “a perfect fit” during his introductory press conference. Showalter believes that as long as Alonso continues to be himself and not a “pleaser,” he’ll fit right in with the team.
