The Dodgers escaped a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth inning after Ernie Clement's fly ball off Yoshinobu Yamamoto towards deep centerfield was caught by Andy Pages to send the game into extra innings.

The defending champions took the lead in the top of the 11th inning after catcher Will Smith's solo home run. The home team had a chance to tie the game after Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s double.

Fans reacted to Betts' double play that sealed a second consecutive World Series win for the Dodgers.

"Dodgers go back-to-back. Pay-to-win sport. It is what it is. Lockout for a LONG time coming in 2026. Inevitable really. This sport is amazing but the Dodgers simply have an unfair advantage. Incredible series. Baseball won’t be played for a LONG time. There will be no season."

Mookie Betts reflects on game-ending double play after Dodgers' World Series triumph over Blue Jays

Mookie Betts' double play secured the first consecutive World Series titles in more than two decades. Meanwhile, the former Boston Red Sox star won the title for a fourth time (three with the Dodgers), becoming the only active player with four World Series rings.

Betts, who played his first full season in a new role as a shortstop, shared what was going through his mind during Kirk's at-bat in the 12th inning.

"As he was pitching the ball, I was talking to myself," Betts said on FOX (via MLB's official website). "'Be nasty, just move, just make a play -- just be nasty, be nasty, be nasty.' … The ball found me and I just kind of played it. I don’t know what happened. All the work, all the work in the backfields, it all came to fruition this season.”

Although Betts didn't have the desired effect with the bat in the postseason, the six-time Gold Glove winner made his presence felt in the infield. Betts is a Gold Glove finalist at shortstop this season.
