The most decorated franchise in the big leagues, the New York Yankees have won the World Series 27 times. Having last won baseball's biggest prize in 2009, however, success has been much harder to come by for the Bronx Bombers in recent times.

The 2020s, so far, have belonged to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The NL West outfit have won the World Series in three of the last five seasons.

On Tuesday's episode of his podcast, insider Mike Francesca ripped into the Yankees, condemning the organization for allowing the Dodgers to steal their thunder.

"The Dodgers have made the Yankees look like an A-ball outfit," Francesca said. "That's what's really bad. (Late owner) George (Steinbrenner) never would have allowed this. They have allowed the Dodgers to take what the Yankees used to do.

"We are bigger, we are better, we spend more, we buy the best, we are the best, that's how the Yankees acted. They don't act that way anymore. Now, they're satisfied when they make the playoffs."

Yankees owner has his say on correlation between spending big and winning championships

On November 24, the Bronx Bombers' owner, Hal Steinbrenner, was asked for his thoughts on the Dodgers' recent success, and whether he planned to spend more this offseason for a better chance of winning titles.

Responding, Steinbrenner said he felt there was a "weak correlation" between spending big and on-field success. Instead, he pointed to the fact that LA's big names "played to their potential" when it mattered most.

"If there's a correlation between spending the most money and winning a championship, I still think it's a weak correlation," Steinbrenner said. "The sample size of data isn't very big, but they (Dodgers) earned every bit of it. I mean, they really played up to their potential -- especially in those last two games -- and that has to happen.

"So, you know, hats off to them. It's not easy to do it twice, and they did it in dramatic fashion this time. But again, we'll see what they do next year and we'll see how it pans out. There was nothing low about my payroll and the Mets' payroll, and look where we ended up."

Nonetheless, fans will be hoping Steinbrenner faciliates a number of important additions this winter, as the Bronx Bombers look to strengthen their roster after a disappointing season in 2025.
